Here is a J-frame Model 637 with Hogue Rosewood checkered grips that is part of my carry rotation. And one of my favorites, a Model 66-0 with Patrick Grashorn's stag grips.

I have a selection of grips on my J-frames:

Of course, my selection was for the upper left hand '60 Pro' OEM grip - a $43 part from S&W. My 642 still has it's easier to pocket tote original rubber boot grip. The wood 60 Pro grips fit any RB J-frame - and my medium+ hands - quite nicely. They sometimes must be back-ordered - but they are worth the wait. Find a '60 Pro', SKU 178013, at a lgs or show to 'test' the grip's feel & fit.

ralph7- the grips on the center gun are genuine imitation plastic stags for an i-frame, made by Sports Inc of Chicago. Picked them up at a gun show-- even though I don't own an i-frame, I couldn't resist them. They fit a RB j, although they come up a little short at the bottom. They're for sale, along with the Pachmayr grips adapter shown-- if you're interested, shoot me a PM.

I like 'em! Too bad Pachmayr doesn't sell somethig like this. Grippers are too big and compacs are....too big also. These look about rght, assuming they're bucked off even with the butt.

Lost count of how many different grips my Model 60 has worn in its 39 years.
Finally realized that simplicity is indeed the ultimate sophistication:

I have tried other grips on my 60-4 and found that, because of the muzzle heaviness of this particular model, the shorter grips give a very awkward feel. The longer grips are almost necessary for good handling characteristics. For shooting, the stock grips are hard to beat but there are better looking grips. This has been my experience.
