I'm looking for some wood grips for my 442. I prefer the kind that do not wrap around or extend beyond the frame (makes for better pocket carry for me).
I'm interested in some that are marked on the inside with this serial number: 39605
Does this number relate to the style of grips they are or just to those specific ones.
Also, if they relate to the style, are they what I'm looking for; fit my 442 without extending beyond the frame?

Thanks much.:)

Many of the older magna style grips have the serial number of the original gun stamped on the backside. That's probably what you are seeing (assuming you have some magna grips).

Yes sir, they look exactly like that....but the seller doesn't call them "magna"...guess he doesn't know.
Thanks much, after seeing them on your 442 I know I gotta have em!

When you say "do not wrap around" does that mean front & back or just back?

Didn't mean to ignore you, but the grips up above show what I meant......the grips are flush with the profile of the frame.
I believe this is best for my pocket carry.
Thanks.

look at Ahrends finger groove, smooth. avail at most online stores, Brownells, Midway, etc. i have these on almost all my j-frames.

I like them, and I'll eventually have a set as I play "dress up"
with the 442...but I gotta have these for old school days:D

ANY j-frame stock round-butt grip will fit like you ask. You can find them on places like e-bay, but you can easily get a set that is warped, has rusted rivets, or have other issues. I bought some using the forum classifieds here. Be sure they send the screw as well. I know there were two different size screws used. I don't know if one could change the inserts to make either-or-the-other screw fit, but the seller should provide a screw with the grips.

This may sound obvious but it is so true. I've been stung buying grips and got the grips with no screw. If there is any doubt, always ask before paying!

If you do buy magnas then do yourself a favor and buy a BK grip adapter for them.

+1 on the BK or Tyler T grip. The perfect combination, a magna or smooth stock and a grip adapter, on any J Frame, JMHO.

watzittoya, I got the micarta and the rosewood on ebay and the two coco bolos from CDNN.

What photoman says about ebay is true. I have been lucky and bitten once.

Just remember that if you use speedloaders that the grips you choose do not obstruct you when you reload from them.
