J frame grip Questions

I have a 642 and a 340PD.I'm trying to keep them as lite as possible. The Packmyer Compac grips are great . However they are 2.5 ounces more than the stock grips.They are also a little to fat or wide .I also have another Packymyer gripper which is way to long and also heavy ay 4.5 oz.both grips are the same weight.I know I'm being picky. Any Ideas on differant grips would be welcomed .

I'm not positive, but I think I recall someone determining that the Hogue Bantam is the lightest boot grip out there, if weight is your greatest concern. There's a thread somewhere on the forum where someone weighed a few of the more common rubber grips and figured out which was lightest. Anything will be quite a bit lighter than a Pachmayr, though- those things are bricks.

I put Hogue ultra lightweight bantam grips on my 637. They are the same size and weight of the stock grips and are a big improvement over the stock grips. They fit in the hand much better and are a slight improvement on the recoil management.

You might want to check out PCS Hideout grips. To me they feel just a hair heavier than the factory rubber boot grips that come stock on current J-frames. They're slightly larger than magnas, filling in a little of the space behind the trigger guard. They're available in smooth and rough textures, with or without finger grooves. You can get them from Brownells for $19 or so. The only drawback is that they interfere with speedloaders, but if you're handy with a Dremel tool that shouldn't be a problem. I don't know how they handle recoil, though; I have a set of the smooth/non-grooved grips but haven't tried them at the range yet (I'm not handy with a Dremel tool... ).

My 340 PD came with Bantam Grips.
Great fit and they feel great, but they drag a little on fabric.
You can order the "original" Uncle Mike's Boot Grips
directly from Smith & Wesson.
The current ones they put on all the J Frames look the same,
but are too squishy. The "original" UM's are a harder rubber
and do not grab fabric.

Hogue Bantams weigh one ounce less than Uncle Mikes, and 1/3 ounce less than the new S&W "fishgill" grips.
I like my pocket carry as light as I can get it.

I put a set of Hogue Bantams on a Model 36 to try them out since they are priced pretty affordably. Initially I wasn't real keene on them, but after putting a few rounds through the revolver a couple weeks ago, I found that they do seem to fill out the hand a little better and offer stable control of the gun during recoil than the Uncle Mikes or the slim Pachmeyer Professionals.

I put the cheaper plastic crimson trace laser grip $100 on my M36
The plastic is probably the lightest because they are same size as stock grip.
Not good for range sessions, but the laser really gives the little guy a whole different dimension to shooting from the hip.
