In trying to get old style, thinner wood grips for my 360M&P I bougt a set off Ebay that I thought would work. They don't. Can someone tell me what I did get? Where did I go wrong? Do any old J Frame grips fit a 360M&P?

Pic of what I got:

It's hard to tell scale without a referance. They appear to be factory K frame round butt grips.

The wood grips are longer front to back than my frame. So tall that the grip goes over the top of the cylinder release.

Maybe this pic will help?

Well dangit! Time to talk to the ebay seller.

So then if they were really J Frame grips, they wouldn't work either because I have a magnum J frame?

Were there any old style wood grips that would fit my 360 M&P?

I could be wrong, but I have never heard of a magnum J frame, and I don't think there is one special to the magnum guns. My J frame will accept any j frame grips, and mine is a M-60 .357 magnum.:)

Then you have a J magnum frame! When Smith decided to chamber the 357 in the J frame-they needed to lengthen the window a bit, so the J frame was supersized-much the same as the old J frame was a supersized I frame. Any J frame with the integral lug is a J magnum size meaning a lenghtened frame window-which is why some people prefer the smaller J frame for their .38's-it's just a bit prettier and better proportioned. Measure an older 60 or 37, 36 38 etc aagainst one of the newer J frames like the 642/442 and you'll see what I'm talking about.

All J Frame RB Grips will fit your 360M&P except for Early Centennial M40/M42 Grips..
Don't know your situation with the eBay seller but would think you could easily trade those K RBs for J RBs in the Classifieds as they look to be in pretty good shape..
The Magum frames use the same grips as the earlier J Frames.
I do know that "SOME" of the AirLites, Like yours have a bit more rounded rear lower tang as thier designed to be used with the "Lanyard Pin", If so just sand that area when you get a set of J Frame grips as they'll be a bit of overhang at the very bottom rear of the grips..
I know that doesn't help much..

Caj,
I should have been more clear I guess. I realized that the window was stretched, but since he was asking about grips, that is what I was referring to- the grip frame as not being a magnum sized or anything special.

I agree-the grip frame dimension on either frame should be identical. Over the years I have gotten several roud butt K's from people that thought they were J's. People forget just how small a round butt J grip frame really is.

I think I agree with flagman & pj (K)

These are K frame round butt Magnas from that era (a little earlier);

…and these are J frame …
