I know that the factory J frame synthetic boot grip will not take speedloaders. I bought up a bunch of the Uncle Mike's grips from S&W on closeout and use them on most of my guns. However, I am considering the full length synthetic grip from S&W for one of my 3" J frames rather than paying the exorbitant prices people are asking for the Uncle Mike's full length grip. Does anyone know if the full length factory grip will take speedloaders? Attached pic is the grip I'm talking about.

I don't have first-hand experience with the grip you show in the picture but would assume it's merely an extended version of the boot grip known to be problematic with some speedloaders. Both grips were available at the same time so it's doubtful the extended grip is a revised/improved version, with regards to speedloaders, or anything like that.

Which speedloaders are you using? I've got a Safariland on hand and just checked on an Airweight with the factory fish scale boot grips and they clear, albeit barely; the pic you posted are the same grips with an extension, so I presume the Safarilands will clear those, too.

I have an HK, and it does fit with a little wiggle. I found if you just put the tips of the projectiles and a little casing, twist and wiggle they drop right in. My issue is pocket carry, to bulky. I mostly carry speed strips. a 6 rounder for 5 rounds of J-frame ammo so I have a little more purchase on the end of the strip.

Five Star Firearms will fit, however they are hard on the clearcoat finish of the 642's and other non-stainless revolvers.

In my experience, the factory boot grips work well with a Jet-Loader.

This is my wife's 638. She has not practiced with any of our speedloaders.

But, this model works just fine whenever I hand her one at the range. :)

I believe the longer grip you are considering is the same shape at the top.

Best of luck. Please let us know how it goes if you decide to try one of these Jet-Loaders.

Ours came from Brownells, if my aging memory serves me correctly. :o

Same here. I can make the HKS speedloader work with my 640 and the full length S&W grips, but have switched to speed strips for carry. I keep 6 rounds in mine as I switch between a J and K frame depending on the situation. The 5 Star does look like it may be an option, but I have not tried any to date.

The factory rubber combat grips work fine with the HKS loader at least with FPRN and FP 158 gr bullets.

J frames are not the best suited for speed loaders to begin with. Speed strips seem to work a little better. I still use #36 with Hogue monos on a 642 though. It isn't the greatest but it still works. I don't think anyone will be a threat to Jerry Miculek with a J frame speed contest.
