J frame help

Can anyone give me the model number/numbers of a J frame .38 spl with a 4 inch bbl. I could swear that Smith made one other than the model 10. I don't see any new ones listed, but would prefer used any way.

The 10 is a K frame. The 36,37,38,39,49,60,63 are some J frames. The 36 is probably the most common..with a steel frame and 5 shots,but don't believe they ever came 4" barrel. The model 60 came in a 5" barrel for a while.

As Breakaway said, the Md 10 is a K frame, not a J frame.

I am aware of some J frame models in 3", but I can't think of any in 4".

Ruger, however, makes SP101's (sort of like a S&W J frame, but heavier and a little bit "chunkier") in 4" models.

If you are looking for a .38 in the same size range as the model 10 (K Frame) the model 67 with 4" and adjustable sights or the 64 with 4.1" and fixed sights (model 10 in stainless). Plus there are a plethora of older model 4" Smiths on the market.

In a J frame there are no current 4" offerings, a 3" Model 60 is as close as you will get.

Some of our smarter members might know of a 4" J frame, they might have been made as police woman's gun back in the day.

Until about 1973 S&W made three fixed sight J-Frame revolvers with four inch barrels: the Model 30 Hand Ejector in .32 S&W Long, Model 31 Regulation Police in .32 S&W Long and the Model 33 Regulation Police in .38 S&W. The 30 and 31 were 6-shot and the 33 was 5-shot. The other J-Frame 4 inch guns were .22 Kit Guns in Blue, Nickel and Stainless and they all had adjustable sights. No 4" J-Frames in .38 Special to my knowledge just 2" and 3". You may have mistaken a Model 33 for .38 Special. The barrels were stamped ".38 S&W".

I just did a quick look up in the Standard catalogue and I couldn't find a 4" J frame .38 SPC. It seems like 3" was the biggest offered in 36,37, 60.

You have not told us what your intended use is for the pistol, but I will say that I like 3" J-frames. I find that the extra inch of barrel makes a significant difference when trying to shoot accurately at some distance, and the 3" J-frames still carry well. If possible, you should try to find an opportunity to shoot one and see if it will meet your needs.
