Hello to all:

My respects go out to all who enjoy, own, and shoot Smith products!

Having said that and speaking with the utmost confidence that I can ask an honest question about my little J and get an honest answer, I proceed.

My first purchase was a Ruger LCR 357. I learned to shoot with it. I can hit very well for an old man who came to the game late. No tack driver mind you but the old man does well indeed.

I ran across this Smith Model 360pd for a "song" at my local pawn emporium. See my other posts. I could not pass it up.

The problem was, it is eating my lunch with the very, very strong trigger pull!!!!!

Now what am I to do? I want that buttery smooth Ruger LCR trigger. I know! I know! It is not a Ruger. But what do I need to do to get there.

I am a bit disappointed that this little J lists for $1019 on the Smith page and has to have this type of attention. Maybe I am expecting too much or maybe I do not understand the ethos of the Smith brand.

I have but two choices as I see it:

One, have a "trigger job" done on the gun.

Two, put snap caps in it and pull the trigger 1000s of times.

I guess there is a third option. I could sell it or trade it for the Ruger.

But I really like it and want to carry it as a EDC. One thing I found when I started carrying-everything is a trade off when messing with guns!!! Is is not??

Any feedback welcome. ;)

You will need a trigger job, but do not get a competition job, only a duty/carry trigger job. A J Frame will never yield a trigger feel as good as a K or N frame and be reliable.

Very Simple Solution...You can solve this problem on your own for $25 by installing an Apex Trigger Kit. It will take 5 lbs off the trigger and make it buttery smooth.

I have 8 J Frames and all have one installed. I have installed many on friend's J Frames as well. Functions 100% in every gun I have installed it in with every type of ammo. Zero light strikes.

Many here have done the same and installed the kit.

It is the way the gun should have come from S&W. Install takes 15 mins. There is a video on the page as well that will walk you through the install.

No need to have a trigger job done. The gunsmith will simply install the same exact Apex Kit or Wolff springs that are the same as Apex and charge you $150. Do it yourself for $25.

Enough said. Just order the kit and install it and your problem is solved.

Or you talking DA trigger or SA trigger? I bought a 360sc (predecessor of the 360pd) right after they came out (and another one a year or so later), and it has about a 2-1/2lb SA trigger ... never had a trigger job ... it was always very good and light, but probably got a bit lighter after lots of shooting and lots of dry firing. It's SA trigger was much better out of the box than my recently bought M69 .44mag L-Frame was, out of the box. I got a trigger job on the M69, and it's now very nice, about the same as my 360sc with no trigger job.

I shoot as little DA as possible ... just don't like DA ... but the DA pull on my 360sc seems relatively light for a DA trigger ... lighter than my M69's DA trigger was, out of the box. The M69's DA trigger is now about 9lb (after the above-mentioned trigger job) ... it gave some light strikes at 7lb, and was originally about 12lb (I think) out of the box. I've never measured the DA pull on my 360sc, but it seems slightly lighter than my (after trigger job) M69's DA trigger.
