Two of my favorite J-frames

Here is my engraved Pre Chiefs Special from April 1955 and my Model 49 from April 1969. I have others, a 432PD, a 342Ti, and a 640-1 pro from more modern times, but these two just bring me back to a more classic S&W era.

Man that is one "Minty" and "Sexy lil' M36..." I have the same in Mint condition but from 77' which is my YOB and was carried by a Cop buddy as his back up for a couple years. I'm surprised at how he kept is in such good condition. But she's now carried the most by me... I Love the nickle because it's so resistant to rust and scuffs...

Below are all our J's... But I'm gonna pick my Baby Girl up one all of her own that is Tailored to her hands and liking herself whether it be a 1 7/8", a 2.5" or 3" barreled version of this model or a "Close Enough" model for whatever she's gonna carry on Campus. A good J-Frame or Lady J-Frame, etc. is a Great Equalizer against "Scum Bags" and such...

I teach both girls to pump 2 or 3 Hard-Cast, Full-Wad Pills from Underwood or Buffalo Bore right into the pelvis, one to the chest, and one to it's mouth area when we train at 8 Yards...

When at 3-5 Yards I teach them to perform a rapid Cylinder-Dump with the M442, Colt-D frame, and M36's all into the silhouette's Pelvis/Belly Button Area as fast as they can pull the trigger.

The Ultimate and Proverbial... "Cold Shower" cool-down for testosterone infused idots such cylinder dump provides instantly.

The 442 they train on the most because they love the fast draw that having no external hammer allows and the sub 5lbs Double Action trigger that is silicone smooth yet bacon crispy upon sear release! (No purse straps or zipper inside pocket books to snag upon). Only took me maybe an hour total with India Stones "Polishing" Sear points (removing Zero Metal, only polishing to a shiny hue), and installing 1lbs reduction with Wolff rebound and hammer/strut springs . This M442 touches off everything from the Boutique, Hornady, European, American, and down to the Steel Cased Russian ammo primers we've tried so she's 100% reliable.

You'd be surprised what an awesome DA trigger one can nearly perfect and crisp up with extremely little to no creep from the aforementioned TLC performed above in under an hour.

This one's trigger easily outmatches my 70's production Lew Horton N frames and 70's production Smith J-frames of whose trigger came from the factory so good I've never been tempted to even take the side-plate off... The J-frame with some love is the near perfect bad-breath close defense Revolver a wife and/or daughter, niece, etc that is available even to this day IMO and IME... Of course as always, YMMV...

I have a good number of J-frames, but this one is the most unusual in my collection. It's a transitional kit gun - the frame was made prior to WWII, but put together with more modern parts and shipped in 1951. These guns are extremely rare. Only 25 were made similarly, according to Roy. That's an original high polish blue finish, not nickel.

That is one of the best "Blued" finished Revolver I've ever seen... Smith's finishes of the 60's, 70's, and 80's were/are so good that nobody, not even Colt, can match these original "Blued" finishes. And I've seen some beautiful Royal Blue Colts too... Smith's Craftsmen were true artist of the trade and cannot be mimicked to date to replicate their work...

Of the five (5) J frames I own this is the work horse.
M649 with XS Big Dot front sight and Craig Spegel
boot grips. Oh, and the lock fell out somehow.

It's not a model 60 but .357 Security Arms clone that was my EDC for many years before S&W came out with one.

My favorite trailgun. A 3" .357 with oversized grips I made to tame the recoil of full-house magnum loads. They don't.
