J Frame Ultra Carry Question

I have a 642 UC I have over 500rds through with no problems.
It has been perfect from day 1 in both fit and function.

So, if the trigger causes the cylinder to turn but the hammer is not cocking and falling, I would suspect a sear problem ....

I had exactly the same issue the OP describes, but with a new Kimber K6XS. Sent it back to Kimber who said it was indeed a sear problem, which they replaced. Got it back, it tested fine, but I'd lost trust in it and sold it.

Sticking with my tried and true M&P 340.

I feel fortunate that I must have gotten a good one. (632UC) My front sight is fine and it goes bang everytime I pull the trigger on a live round. I have fired probably 50 live rounds and a couple of hundred snapcaps.

I did open mine up when I first got it, and there was a very tiny sliver of some type of plastic "label like" material on the hammer, and it was a bit dry inside.

I also put a Wolf 14 lb hammer return spring in it and a tiny drop of mineral oil on the moving parts. It helped a lot.

I'm going to put another box through it tomorrow, and if all goes well, carry it some.

These apparent QC issues are very sad and seem to be much more prevalent of late than in the past. I purchased a fairly early production 432UC and it has been just fine so far.

Have shot thousands of rounds through Dozens of Smith and other Revolvers.
Never had this problem!
Any problems?
Well, yes. I have owned 2- Model 53s.

As a follow up to my original post, I just received the gun back from S&W. They replaced the firing pin, turnaround took just a couple of weeks. Will take it to the range to confirm it works as expected.

Had a similar problem to yours on my Chattanooga Arms 442 PC. Cylinder would rotate when trigger pulled, no ignition. I discovered the sideplate screws were loose: gun has fired fine since I tightened them (but not abusively). Have no explanation.

Might want to check those screws. Wish you well, Js got to work: they're the 1st line of defense for many of us.

Have you had the opportunity to test it yet?

The number of complaints about the Ultimate Carry j-frame are unsettling. I just ordered a 432UC and hope that there are no issues, but if there are, I have confidence S&W can fix them.

The biggest issue with these complaints is that it may deter people from considering this revolver. That would be a real shame because the .32 H&R Magnum is such a cool caliber with a lot of benefits, and more shooters using .32 H&R will encourage ammo manufacturers to make more of it. I very much want this revolver and the caliber to succeed!

We have seen some issues with different rim dimensions between a wide variety of .32. Some of the returned guns have gotten longer firing pins.

A LOT of the UC quality control issues have been addressed. Trust me, nobody was more on top of S&W than the people behind the project. Most of the current guns have been good.
