J frame vs Ruger LCR

it has about the same "feel" as the Arrow stapler used to put up the targets

Thank you for that great analogy. I had not thought of that but you hit the nail right on the head. I have several Arrow staplers for setting targets and putting up plastic sheeting in case of emergency and they exactly the same triger pull.

I rented them both and have to say the LCR was much easier to shoot. I found the trigger rather smooth and light compared to the smith which was heavy and long. I don't own either but I would purchase the LCR if I was in the market for that size gun. Just don't shoot 357 mags with the LCR, it reacts very similar to my 329pd with full 44 mag loads...the first cylinder gets your attention and is kind of fun. The second cylinder full causes a bit of pain, and the 3 full cylinder just makes you want to quit.

In order of preference:

3) LCR. A distant third

2) modern (3 digit) J frames.

1) two digit J frames - leading by a mile.

Just my opinion, of course.

While I agree about preferring the older j frames to the newer ones, I shoot the new ones WAY better. The sights, even though not great, are much better for me on the j magnum frames. It's just so much wider and easier for my eyes to pick up. Probably the reason my 642-2 is in my pocket more than the others.

No experience with an LCR though.

The LCR. It has an amazing trigger and accuracy to match. I've shot sub 2.5" groups freehand at 20 yards. Now I can't do that on demand. But the gun can. It is my EDC.
