J-frames

I picked up some grips for a J-frame revolver. They have a good shape but I don't like the finish on the grips. I am not sure what the glossy finish is,poly or varnish of some type. Can anyone recommend a was to strip that finish off? Thanks for the help.

I tend to shy away from refinishing factory stocks, but if you feel the need, you might go to the Gunsmithing Forum on this site and ask those guys who are into that sort of thing. There are a couple of guys on this site who are absolute wood wizards!
