The theme tunes for 1, 4 and 5 were sung by Shirley Bassey, or as we called her in the UK, Burly Chassis.:D

Films 3, 4 and 5 all had a theme involving stuff in space.

As for picking Moonraker as a top Bond movie, well, all I can say is YMMV. IMHO Lois Chiles was flat out DREADFUL in that film. Much of her dialogue sounded like it had been dubbed on later, and badly, at that.

Like with Westerns and War movies-my top favorites always change. I grew up with both Connery and Moore-so I liked both their styles and therefore-are equal in my book.

Possibly now the choices could be:
Moonraker.
Goldfinger.
You Only Live Twice.
From Russia With Love.
Never Say Never Again.

One thing in common was Connery was in the first three. The other two had Roger Moore.

My personal favorite of the genre is "Moonraker." My favorite Bond is George Lazenby. Really it is. I'd put "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" in the top three Bond movies.

I liked Sheena Easton better than Burly Chassis. I think Sheena sang, "For Your Eyes Only." I liked some of her other music, too. I think one song was called, "Strut."

I have a soft spot in my heart for, "Dr. No", the first film. It was also the first Bond book I read. And it's where 007 got the PPK to replace the .25 Beretta.

I rather like, "From Russia, With Love" and think, "Thunderball" was the last really good Bond flick before they relied on Political Correctness in casting and went for too many gadgets, excess stunts, and fights.

"Never Say Never Again" was basically, "Thunderball", by a different production crew and in some ways better done. It seemed more like the book. And I preferred Kim Basinger to Claudine Auger.

I saw the one with Denise Richards as Dr. Christmas Something. Jones? "The World Is Not Enough"? I'm a Denise fan, but you get her much better in, "Wild Things." Now, that is a superior erotic thriller. I liked it about as well as, "Basic Instinct." I bought the DVD's to both, although I saw them in theaters, too.

I'll put them as

"On Her Majesty's Secret Service" My favorite if for no other reason that it stars Diana Rigg, but George Lazenby is one of my favorite Bonds.

Goldfinger. First one I saw.

Thunderball

From Russia with Love...I think Daniela Bianchi was the best looking Bond girl of all of them.

Then it jumps to a more modern one. I tried not to like those but

Skyfall Much deeper, darker movie but I find myself liking it in spite of that.

I'd replace 4 with Doctor No and 5 with From Russia with Love.

John Cleese would make a better James Bond than Roger Moore.

Goldfinger's the earliest in my top 5.

But, the classic title sequence to Dr. No has to be seen. It set the stage for all that followed:

When I was a kid I thought we were looking at him through a scope. Turns out it was the barrel of a .38 there. (Also...the way he swings his around at us is not the way you'd do it, huh?)

In the next one, the original From Russia with Love, they began displaying the titles across "heavenly bodies":

But Goldfinger is where the series really hit its stride, and not just in the title sequence I've dropped here:

How about the WORST Bond movie? - I'd have to say Octopu$$y BUT it had the best theme song of ALL - All Time High by Rita Coolidge

The only Bond I really didn't like was Daniel Craig. I can't stand him, would never pay to see him. I think they are looking for another James Bond at present.

And I'm at opposite end of the spectrum and think Craig's been the best. Connery was good for his time, but Roger Moore, IM(not so)** was the worse Bond to ever grace the screen. It is my understanding that Craig is doing one last film - apparently they took him up on his "I won't do another Bond film unless offered an outlandish amount of money." statement, but I agree, they need to be looking for another Bond. As much as I like Craig, he's getting too old to be believable.

Craig doesn't want to do another one. He gets beat up really bad and his body can't take it. Very un-Bond.

For me, Dr. No. I was lucky in that I read the first Bond, Casino Royale very soon after it came out in book form as my local library purchased it. This was in the middle 1950s in the UK if memory serves me correctly. Dave_n

I'm a huge Bond fan. Even been to a car museum which has an entire wing dedicated to an extensive collection of cars, tanks, planes, and about every toy, or promotional item you could dream of.

That being said, I'd be hard pressed to choose 5 movies off the top of my head..
Connery is my fav Bond. I like Craig. Then the rest are kind of jumbled in the middle..Moore / Brosnan / Dalton and so on..

You can argue which Bond movies were the best or worst... but I say that no one can argue the fact that the three best James Bond movie themes by far were all performed by Dame Shirley Bassey. :)

It's not that the others weren't good. :) Some of them were very good and even memorable... some were okay/passable... and some were outright terrible. But the three done by Dame Shirley Bassey were the absolute best. :D

George Lazenby was the most under-rated Bond of all. It's a damn shame (and crazy stupid) that he bowed out after just one movie... but it did bring Sean Connery back for one last movie: "Diamonds Are Forever"! :)

I agree. To me, George Lazenby seems more like the character that Ian Fleming wrote about. I won't go into my story about Ian Fleming's Ruger .22 that I should have bought but didn't. I have covered that previously.

I recall him aiming that Ruger in the article that, "Life" ran on him.
