About 25 years ago coming home fro Disneyland we took a side trip west towards Paso Robles to visit the James Dean crash site. I was reading a book in the car that described his exact movements along the way, pointing out landmarks. Like the store he stopped at because he saw a friend’s Mercedes gullwing parked there. Had he not stopped, had he not gotten a speeding ticket along the way.....

That song was my first thought when I saw the thread title.

Mine also! Started playing in my head right then. LOL

How did you arrive at your moniker? Me, from my wife's love of the smell of wet dogs (I don't share that love), and me from the love of JMB's design. Had to come up with something for AOL way back when.

I just got my first computer and was getting help from a friend when it came to setting up an E-mail address. My dog had just came in from outside and it was raining. That made my choice for me. Plus I am a fan of the wet dog smell also.I have noticed when it is mentioned there aren't many of us.

James Dean was a shooting star and ahead of his time while simultaneously being perfect for his time. What really strikes me is that his overall appearance...the clothes, the hair, even the glasses...would no doubt fit right into today's look.

People say the same thing about Amelia Earhart. Matter of fact, both of them have been used in fashion ads for things like khakis, shoes, and jackets...and again, hair styles. Dean's look, and her look, are really timeless.

Until I gave it to a photographer friend of mine in NYC, I had a big book of James Dean b&w photos by Sanford Roth. It'd been published in Japan, so the text was unreadable to me. But the photographs spoke for themselves (and Dean) very well.

James Dean is a classic example of that thing about "just imagine the heights he could have reached if he hadn't died so young." He was nothing less than amazing in Giant.

He was never anyone's idea of a role model, but damn he was great at what he did.

This is just one of Roth's photos of him.
