jeep ... posssible problems

he put the checker device on it ... looks like a small part that goes on the outside of the transfer case , he commented about how it works somewhat like a magnet . easy to change according to him . not sure of the cost yet.

Crank Position Sensor? Jeep enthusiasts will recommend getting a factory CPS instead of aftermarket. NAPA would be a close replacement. Cost will range from $70+.

I don't know about the Grand Cherokees but the normal Cherokees of that year had the infamous '0331' heads in '00-'01. They are prone to cracking. A costly replacement. The 4.0L inline 6 were great engines except for those heads.

Have 2 different Jeeps, an old '90 Cherokee 4.0 6 cyl. (XJ in Jeep language) that I keep as a hunt/fish beater. 234k on her. Other than standard repairs of stuff that wears, she's been amazing. Doesn't get driven that much anymore. Mostly local errands and pulling my boat. Paint started going bad, so covered it all in O.D. bedliner.

Wife has a 2000 GC. 4.0 6 cyl. It's been a bit more problematic. And yes, we fought the mysterious failing tailight battle. Very aggravating. 325k on this vehicle. Slight real main seal leak. I'm a stickler for maintenance and oil changes.
Maybe that's why they go so long, don't know.

I had a Chrysler Concord a few years back that went through 2 transmissions before I sold it. Not even close to 100k when the transmissions failed. My experience with bad transmissions is that they just die suddenly. No warning, they just die and get stuck in low gear. I had one that would only work in reverse.
My experience with things Chrysler, I'll never buy another of their products again.
