OK, so not much love for Frankie Lane.
How about one of the best popular voices anywhere? I think if Jennifer were better looking she'd be a super star. Remember that Black & White album that we discussed a few weeks ago? Well I don't think Roy Orbison let her sing back up for no good reason! This is from her Famous Blue Raincoat album. Listen to the voice control. Almost gives me shivers......

She's superb. Sang with Joe Cocker on the love song "Up Where We Belong" from An Officer and a Gentleman. Worked many times with the all-time great Leonard Cohen. Not traditional cover-girl looks but I think a beauty...

Yeah, her work with Cohen was some of her best. The entire Famous Blue Raincoat album was written by him.

Roy Orbison, Black and White, It would be hard to one up that group of very talented musicians and vocalist. He (Orbison) had his share of success, but he paid a heck of a price over the years. The fire that just about wiped out his family was devastating I'm sure. He not only had a lot of talent, but such a unique voice. You never said "who was that" You knew right away....That is a gift.

Actually Black and White Night was quite a production...A lot of great performers were there..Jennifer Warnes, K.D, Lang, and Bonnie Raitt singing backup...Not to mention Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen T Bone Burnett and others...Darn that was a long time ago...I wonder if the Coconut Groove is still there...That is one of only five or six music CD's I have ever bought....I thought it was terrific that was a lot of real talent in one place at one time....Don't see that much anymore....

I know of an almost perfectly sang song. But I won't link to it here. The gal who sings it is almost universally reviled in the gun/conservative community. I admit I'm in that group but I love the song.
