"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jim Scoutten.

In his thirty years of reporting the shooting sports, Jim played a pivotal role in the industry and will be greatly missed."

"As always, shoot safely, shoot often, and keep 'em in the ten ring" -Jim Scoutten

Working in the industry, I had the pleasure of hanging out with him and son. Great man and ambassador to the shooting world. RIP Jim

Death of Jim Scoutten

Here is a link to an article reporting his death, he was 77 years old. There is no mention that would indicate this was anything different than natural, people in their 70s do that. Remember that when we are born we are promised nothing more than one day we would leave this world, he had a far longer run than many!

My dad saw Jim on TV while staying with me some years back. Dad said that his presentation of our sport would bring on wringing hands in the UK, simply because he made it all fun and didn't present the subject with fear and dread. His outtake reels were hysterical. IIRC Jim was also a big motor sports fan. RIP, Sir, and I'll do my best to keep 'em I'm the 10 ring in your honor.

Just saw this news this morning; haven't been on the forum here in years but just wanted to pop in and say how much of a bummer this one is. Grew up watching Shooting USA. We lost another great one.

Always enjoyed his program. Seemed like he enjoyed what he was doing and was an outstanding ambassador for the lifestyle. I can still hear that voice, along with Paul Harvey's and Robert Mitchum's at the mention of their names.

Many a winter Saturday afternoon I watched his program. It was always interesting and factual. Now that the internet has replaced TV, it's unlikely we will see his type of presentation any time soon. He was certainly a positive role model in the shooting sports.
