Jinks letter?

Hi.

I have a 4" Model 14-2 (1961) that shows no evidence of having been re-barrelled. It was made after the KCPD guns and before the Dayton guns so I'm hoping that I have a pretty rare revolver here. Thus, I sent $50 off to S&W for my first letter of authenticity. Does anyone here know how long it takes 'em to respond these days?

2-3 months seems to be average, it varies during the year. Let us know what the letter says.

Got an answer....

I got the letter back and it says that my gun was originally shipped from S&W with a 6" barrel. I'm not crushed. I paid about what it would cost for a decent, used Model 10 or 15 but I'd rather have this than those any day.

I have a great shooter bought for a reasonable price, albeit with no pedigree. Even so, it would have been nice had it been some oddball, rare Model 14. Whoever did the barrel swap, btw, did some great work. You'd never know it wasn't original by looking.

It really is a great shooter, the best 4" K-frame I've ever shot. In fact, I'm taking it to the range today.
