Dog229 here,
Asking you guys about the Jerry M. wood grips for the l frame round butt i started to use. Will these do just fine with large hand size like mine and where cost wise is the best place to order them. Are there any changes in their production in the past
to present?
I am using the hogue rubber fingerless smooth grips and want something a little more slippery to manage my grip.
Thanks for any opinions thrown my way.

Grips are very personal - what works for me, may not work for you as our hands are different.

That being said, I like the JM grips. I have them on my 625, 627 and 15 and am very happy w/ them. I use these guns in competition and want a high grip w/ out the "stickiness" of the rubber grips so I can quickly manipulate the gun during reloading.

As said above- it's a personal decision

Good luck

As mentioned above, grips are personal.

The JM grips are on the slender side.

The are fast to grip and draw with.

However, I use different wood grips on target and hunting revolvers.

I do not have any L-frames with them, but they are on several of my N-frames.

JM grips

These grips are ill fitted with very poor quality control. They actually provide the shooter with free splinters in the firing hand.

I sent them back for repair, along a misaligned rear sight. The sights were fixed, but the grips were returned as sent. They still fit as if they were made by an amateur and must be replaced. They look nice and comfortable, however the opposite is true.

Guess that quality control is no longer a front line issue for S&W. It's a shame.

The original "bar-of-soap" grips were unmarked (no billboard "JM") and of a nice wood (Paduk?) and later R,W & B. These were made by Hogue and held on using their attachment system with the stirrup and single screw through the butt.

S&W later copied the grip having the maker do them in a conventional style two-piece with a lateral screw - I would almost bet those are the ones that Drill Sergeant is complaining about.

The original JM grips, made by Hogue can be had on Jerry's website for the K, L & N frames, RB or SB, smooth or checkered. Here's a link...

Grips : Team Miculek - The Legacy Lives On

As was said, grips are a very subjective thing, I don't really care for the JM grips. I use the grips from the X-frame on my IDPA guns and Hogue, finger-groove, wood/rubber Big Butts on my USPSA gun. YMMV.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

The wood Hogue mono grips work well for me, slippery enough to readjust grip on presentation, secure enough when gripped. I have the stock grips on my 625 JM and although I feel like I'm used to them I do not shoot it near as well as my M-1989 with the stock rubber Hogue's. I may just get a set of the wood Hogue's for that round butted beastie.
