Jockstrap Holsters Are My Favorite Style. They have been for quite a number of years. I know that vintage makers Myres and Lawrence made them, and there were probably others, but Heiser wasn’t one of them. I know current makers produce them too. They can be very, very fancy or very plain.

I’ll start this thread by showing a couple of mine. It actually took me a while to find my first one, and it is very interesting because it is a unique uncatalogued one. Myres called that style a Ranger holster. This Myres Uncatalogued Ranger Threeperson Style Holster fits a Colt SAA with a 5 1/2 inch barrel.

My second example is what I think of when I see the words “jockstrap holster”. It is the traditional style, rather fancy because it’s very nicely floral carved. It fits a S&W K frame with a 6 inch barrel.

Show us what you have and tell us a little about them.

The finest Texas Jockstrap holsters I have ever owned.

This big double rig was made by S.D. Myres in El Paso, Texas. Triple laced, floral carved and fully lined including the belt, it appears to be built for 2 Ruger Super Blackhawks.
You have to have long legs to wear this setup! The holsters are 14" long.

That’s not my favorite style but it’s an admittedly good canvas for carving.
This pair are Dale Myres holsters, made in Mexico during a short period when Dale tried to compete with the original Myres.

My best pair-reportedly made for an Abercrombie & Fitch sales rep.

You could order them plain-.45 auto and 4” N frame holsters.

Here are a couple more examples that I have. The first one is my plainest one. It is a SD Myres jockstrap holster made for a Colt Detective Special and it looks almost new. But, instead of a floral carved style, this one is plain. I like it a lot, and whoever bought it to carry their DS, was one cool dude. The second is my fanciest one, it is fully lined and laced. When I received the holster, I was amazed at the workmanship, and the thoughts of how time consuming it must have been to make, with all the lacing. After finding out that Myres sometimes etched their holsters like Heiser did, I looked under the holster and found "445 line + lace" etched on the back skirt. So it is a SD Myres Model 445.

M*, when I acquired it, I was hoping it would fit a S&W N frame with a 3.5 inch barrel. Unfortunately, it was too small. At that time, I didn’t own a short barreled K frame. Now, I own 4” and 2” K frames. I know the 2” is too short, but if the 4” is too long and the 2” kinda fits, then it will let me know more about what will fit in it. I need to dig it out and do some checking.

Sorry for the long winded response.

I have one more Jockstrap holster in my collection. It is a Lawrence Model 130 Type 576 holster. One thing that I find cool about it is how many options it came with. This is a Lawrence Model 130 holster made to fit a Ruger Blackhawk .357 with 4 5/8 barrel. The letters following the model number specifies the many options this holster has. The “F” is for floral carving, the “C” is for chamois lining, the “L” is for black Latigo lacing, the “S” is for a sight protector, the “H” is for a safety strap, and the “D” is for the color “black” dyed. It is one of my few dyed black holsters. I prefer brown because I think it shows the terrific floral carving best.

I like stiff holster with no back plate, loop folded and fastened around holster with buckle strap. On drop loop I go over top - back through the slot. That way gun is high and not flopping around and the wide skirt of drop loop distributes weight of big revolvers without digging in to you. Not the best for fast draw but sometimes I go for days without getting in a gunfight. Those holsters made of one ply leather I dislike and anything I carry must have exposed trigger guard.
