Joe Don Baker

Recently I have watched a lot of movies with Joe Don Baker in them, I think he has been underated as an actor. I just started watching a movie titled 'Framed' from 1974 and a BBC drama 'The Edge of Darkness' from the 80's in both he was excellent.

Check him out as a mafia hit man named "Molly" in "Charlie Varrick" with Walter Matthau as well. And, for crying out loud, don't miss "Walking Tall" with him playing the part of Sheriff Buford Pusser. He was also good supporting Nick Nolte in the early Nineties remake of "Cape Fear" playing a private detective.

Ok, I apologize if I am wrong, but wasn't he in "Fletch"? I mean...I remember him telling Chevy Chase that he'd plant a knife on him or something (keep in mind it is 0219, I worked 3-11 and just got home, and John Powers is warming the brain)........was he carrying a Smitty in that?

I remember "Mitchell" (which was made into an MST3K), and he played the awesome Jack Wade in 2 Bond Films (Goldeneye & Tomorrow Never Dies).

Worked with a guy who was one of his frat brothers at North Texas State. Apparently he was quite the stud back in the day. Said he was a great guy and a lot of fun to be around.

+1 on Charlie Varrick. A fantastic movie!

And yes, I agree that Joe Don Baker has been underrated. He's kind of like a more recent George Kennedy- shows up in all sorts of movies, though not often as the star. I believe he was the Governor in the movie version of The Dukes of Hazzard.

Forgot about "Fletch". He was good in that as well. Had a part as Steve McQueen's brother in "Junior Bonner" too. As an aside, I loved R.Lee Ermy playing the televangelist in "Fletch Lives".

He was definitely the best actor to ever play Sheriff Pusser.

I liked him in Walking Tall, Framed was made by the same director in 1974 shot in Tennessee. Lots of Colt revolvers Baker had a 4 inch Python. the movie plot was pretty good. He was also in the Outfit with Robert Duvall another good movie. I liked Charley Varrick, I am trying to find Welcome Home Soldier Boys. I believe he did play the best Buford Pusser.
