Songs like this, remind me of my youth. My Dad recently died; I recall for years when I was growing up when we would listen to Johnny Cash and others...

It is strange the memories that you recall and those you forget in time. I hope wherever this message finds you, it finds you well, friend.

I like Johnny Cash, of course, but I also think his daughter, Rosanne, is terrific. She just gets better and better. Love that The River and the Thread album.

Some memories for certain. When I was growing up we had a console record player in the front room. Dad had sole rights to it in the evening when he came home from work.
Marty Robbins, Roy Clark, Buck Owens, etc. were the staples. As he and I got older he allowed Gordon Lightfoot, Olivia Newton John and some newer artists. Oddly, he did not are for Johnny Cash.
I remember Shortly after high school Rosanne Cash's first album was released. Testament to her appeal, the wife, both daughters and myself have that album on our digital music storage.

My best friend's father was a mentor to a lot of us, he played Johnny Cash frequently and insisted that we listen. Many years later I got to meet Johnny Cash and shake his hand, I came away with tears in my eyes. Great memories around both those men.
Thanks for posting this.

As I have posted, my old Buddy Jerry roomed with Johnny over in Berlin.
He didn't do it that long.
They were doing shift work intercepting Morse code. Ditty Boppers.
Johnny and friends would often drink beer and play guitars from one shift to the next.
Jerry occasionally needed some sleep!

My Dad liked Webb Pierce and I did too. When we drove to my Grandma and Grandpas we listened to country on the radio and I used to think they all were performing right there at the radio station Good memories.

I remember being in HS when Roseanne Cash had the album and single Seven Year Ache come out. I was "can I have her?". LOL. I think many guys my age felt the same way.

I like that Seven Year Ache song, too. Takes me back to my prime, as it were, in the '80s. (In retrospect,"A legend in his own mind," seems apt!)

All these years later, my vote for Rosanne's best is this one. When the Master Calls the Roll: YouTube

And, a very moving tribute — and one relevant to us all today — from Rosanne to her dad, shortly after his passing. It includes an excellent rendition of Tennessee Flat Top Box: YouTube

I think it was great myself...
