Mine is a 4" with Ahrends coco bolo grips and its very fun to shoot.

Welcome to the club.
What's your plan for it?
Competition, hunting, plinking?

I figure it will get used mainly as a warm up at the range. However, a number of my gun acquisitions have to do with a modest effort at prepping, and this one could serve to avoid blowing small game to pieces with the big iron on my other hip. I have a Browning Buckmark but am very much into revolver alternatives at this point. I will probably sell the Browning.

Grab a couple of speed loaders and a loading block and you should be set.

Very cool, at_liberty! Have much fun and happiness shooting it.
I have a Buckmark too, but it's staying as the 617's safe-mate.

Birdshooter...those grips are GORgeous!

I too joined the 617 club this past weekend. My dad gave me one of the three that he has. The one he gave me is a 617-4 with 6" barrel. It's the one he got for his 30 year retirement gift from work.

I to am the new owner of M617-8 4" 10 round which I looked long and hard for a few months on all the usual sites and on GB in particular watched a used M617-? 10 round pre-lock 4" get bid up to over $1000 before I became disgusted and put my quest on hold. The condition of the mentioned gun was fair to good without the original box or other contents. A week later I found exactly what I was waiting for from a dealer who had a shipment of 5 and I believe still has 1 . I also saw one show up today on G.A. for $30 bucks less than I payed at $750 so if your interested act fast as it may be awhile before S&W do another run. I am from Central Oregon and with the exception of 2" ultra lites we don't see any new production Smith revolvers. All good thing come to those who wait I suppose. Good Luck

Yes, I own plenty of ammo.

I assume by now that the "plenty of ammo" statement has been altered to, "I still have a little ammo left." Those K-frame 22s are just plain fun to shoot. If and when 22 ammo returns to the shelf at my LGS, I'm going to go back to shooting mine more and maybe slow down a little with my 32s.
