I know nothing about tornadoes, is this something than happens frequently where all you people are located or is this considered excessive?

Prayers for all those being effected.

Sounds pretty bad from what I've seen on the news.

Yes..tornados are a frequent occurance in the plains states. Some years have few...other years many...sometimes have years with many many tornados.

I've dodged tornados in Oklahoma for 48 years...been really close twice!

Medical records, x-rays, other papers from Joplin showing up 50-80 miles NE. Found some debris here about 45 miles away.
St. Johns Hospital on the north side of 32 street took a direct hit (9 story building) and has been evacuated. Freeman Health is on the south side of the street and just east, but is open and taking the criticals and newly injured.
People are still trapped in Home Depot and others.

Joplin has been hit before. Recent tornadoes have hit to the north and south of Joplin and pretty much all over the four state area of Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri.

Tornadoes are rare in Mass
but Worcester had an F-4 in 1953
and Great Barrington had another F-4 in 1995

My prayers for those in MO

Death toll now at 139. Rebuilding has started. My wife was down Thursday helping clean up a damaged home west of the hospital. St. John's is opening an ER in tents tomorrow.
