Journalist's Guide To Firearms ID

Sir, the "AP Stylebook" actually includes a weapons section with decent (if basic) explanations. The problem is that no one bothers to read it.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

This illustration is OK, so far as it goes, but doesn't address ammunition nomenclature --- it does not illustrate or describe bullet primers, bullet casings, cop-killer bullets, and so forth. Any contemporary journalist should be familiar with these commonly used terms. It also fails to adequately describe high capacity "clips", barrel shrouds, and other evil appurtenances associated with assault weapons. It also fails to explain the various weapons such as RPGs, full auto subguns, rifles, and light machine guns, allegedly purchased in stateside sporting goods stores, or via the gunshow loophole, and smuggled into Mexico.

The degree of ignorance, apathy, and intellectual dereliction evident in almost every MSM mention of firearms ought to be a warning to those of us who know better, to doubt and be suspicious of everything else these ignoramuses report.
