On this day June 6th:

My uncle was in Rome. He helped liberate the first of the Axis capitals. He was in the 5th Army.

At the same time, in the Pacific my other uncle was preparing for the invasion Saipan. He was an aviation engineer.

My other uncle was in somewhere in the North Pacific. He was in the Aleutians Campaign.

Those were my dad's older bothers.

On my mom's side two, of my uncles, were in a Japanese POW camp after surviving the Bataan Death march.

D-Day may get all the press, but there were millions of others fighting around the globe. We should remember their scarifies, too.

I agree, we need to remember all of them. It truly was a world war. My dad was too young for WWII (his service was later, during Korea) but I had other relatives in WWII. One uncle was in the Pacific on an LST, somewhere around New Guinea when Normandy happened.

I remember it well. I was 10 years old and every service man was a hero to me. I was spending time with an aunt in upper SC. We were awakened early in the morning to the sounds of church bells and sirens from every direction of the country side.No one had to tell us what was going on, we instinctively knew the invasion was on.The dreaded but anticipated invasion. My aunt had 6 sons in the service so this was very personal to her.I also had 6 or 8 other cousins serving. The churches were filled during the day and millions of prayers set up.Anxiety was in the air.
What a memory!
And prayers were answered, all my cousins returned unscathed!
For everyone who served, "Bless 'em all!"

Thanks for reminding all. One Uncle was in 88th Division in
Italy on D -Day. in a ranger platoon for his battalion. Very tough fighting in Italy. Awarded purple heart and bronze star.

D-Day in Pacific involved the amphibious assault on Guam. Another uncle was in Navy UDT #4 (frogman) and received bronze star for invasion duties.

Those in all theaters of WWII are my hereoes!
