Im leaving for vacation this weekend and was wondering what some of you have done with your firearms that dont keep them in a safe. I have not yet purchased a safe and dont want to be one of those people where they get stolen and who knows. I was thinking keeping them at the local PD? Or is that crazy?

That's crazy.

You must know someone from the range that you trust, or have a friend or relative that you can trust with safekeeping your firearms. Depending on how many you need to temporarily store, it should not be that hard to find someone.

If it is just the four handguns that you have listed, buy a double handgun case for $20, put them inside, slap a padlock on it and leave it at your parents, brothers, sisters, cousins, etc. house. Tell them to put it somewhere safe till you get back.

Do they need a license to hold them?

They don't here in RI, unless they are a person prohibited from being in possession of firearms. I believe MA has sme kind of FID card that a person must have in order to have them in their possession. You might want to check the laws in MA.

Another idea would be to drop them off at your local gunsmith and ask him to lock them up for you for a week or so. Slip him a twenty for the trouble.

And just what are you going to do with the rest of your valuable possessions?

I suggest you lock your doors, buy insurance, ask the police to check on your home REGULARLY, etc, etc, etc.

Be safe.
