Up until the late 1960s there were companies that would deliver trained Doberman’s to stores and businesses and drop them off there at night with food and water and pick them up in the morning. It was pretty common in large department stores or factories, and I’m sure it was a great deterrent, but it violated the law of excessive force for breaking and entering if the dog mauled someone.

^^ The legal issues can vary from State to State. I don't worry about it, but I am sure that on the west side of the state someone would try to find a way to go after the property owner.

If one had and used a residence as part of the building it would change the legal analysis.

Remember the scene in "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" where Red (George Kennedy) crashes through the department store window and the Dobermans get him?
