A shop that I patronize in the Cleveland suburbs at least for awhile had Jersey walls in front of the shop.
Up until the late 1960s there were companies that would deliver trained Doberman’s to stores and businesses and drop them off there at night with food and water and pick them up in the morning. It was pretty common in large department stores or factories, and I’m sure it was a great deterrent, but it violated the law of excessive force for breaking and entering if the dog mauled someone.
