Just a teaser

The box is very interesting-
It is obviously too short for a 4" gun, so it must have been a box they used for 38 Safties and 38 Terriers. I can't think of anything else they made at that time that would fit that box.
I wonder if they printed box labels in house, or farmed them out. Obviously, they did not yet have any for the 2" M&P, so they remarked a 4" label. Cool.

Lee:

I too love the box and it intrigued me as well. When I first saw, just the label with the 4 crossed out and 2 in the grease pen, I thought for sure it was a box for a 4" M&P that was marked to 2" on the label. But then Bruce posted this photo showing the lid...

All I have at the moment is the one I bought it from.

... and the size of the box and the Printing on the lid for the "S. & W. - .38 Millitary & Police, 2 Inch" makes me think that they did have the boxes printed for the 2" guns... just not the labels...

Also intersting that Millitary was spelled with two "L"s. The 4 Inch boxes that I have have the English and Spanish printed with one L Military...

All that said, I love the 2" package.. with the Patent Box. :D

Here is another M&P snubbie. The first picture is the factory letter, that conveys the confusion of what the name really is. The serial number is S998587, and it's a K-frame, so it's mixed in with all the the .38 revolvers. This caliber of this one is 32 Long. The confusing name is .38 M&P chambered in .32 Long. I prefer the name .32 M&P.

The next picture is the left side of the revolver, and the following picture is a close-up of the caliber roll marking.

The last picture is the right side of the revolver.

I have two others, one a 4", and the other a 5". As this thread is about 2" revolvers, I'm not including pictures of the other two.

Yes, I know about the patent date.
That is why some students of S&W call it the "Patent Box".
Others use the term "Display Box" because of the way that it will stand open displaying the gun with the lid instructions showing as a backdrop.
This will now officially begin the debate over which term is correct!
All entrants in the debate must list age, years collecting, number of guns owned, height, education level, and IQ. :D:D:D :p

Wots a IQ?
