Just Acquired Model 27-2 3.5”

Hello everyone, this is my first post. I took delivery of this beautiful Hogleg yesterday as an early 10 year anniversary gift from my wife. Model 27-2 with a 3.5” barrel; my preliminary search of the S/N looks like it was made in 1973. I believe the finish to be original. I just pulled the grip panels and confirmed they are serialized to the gun. I plan to carry this and I have already gotten in the queue for some Grashorns elk stag grips and some American Holly grips from Zane Thompson. Next is a holster from Barranti Leather. I’m also hoping to find a Tyler T Grip for it. This is probably the nicest revolver I own and I believe I got it for a very fair price. Very excited to take it out shooting.

Third: The 3.5" Model 27 is one of the favorite guns on this forum. SN N165742 and SN N170343 are Model 27s in my collection and they book-end your gun. They shipped in Feb 1974 and March 1974, respectively. So, if I had to guess, I would guess that your gun shipped in early 1974, but only an historical letter will get you a firm ship date, as S&W did not ship guns in SN order...

Welcome aboard from the Las Vegas area. You got yourself a fine example. The 3.5” 27 is one my favorite smiths; rarely do I walk away from a nice specimen. In fact, I picked up another 2 weeks ago and immediately adorned it with stags from bigmtnman. Serial number N164

Your wife gave you a fantastic treasure in that M27! They are a marvelous piece of artwork to begin with, but how much more meaningful that your life partner gifted it to you!

Keep an open eye on here for grips and T grip. I’ve bought both here. Occasionally Big Mt Man will list elk and moose antler grips for sale. I’ve never seen his work in person but it’s supposed to rival Grasshorns.

Welcome to the Forum! Great first post with a great revolver. As mentioned above, lots of fans of the .357 Magnum here on the Forum and the 3-1/2" bbl. versions are some big favorites. I just happen to have a couple of them myself (27-2s: 1970 and 1971), but as you can see I favor the larger target stocks. Sounds like you've got a plan with Grashorn's Elk Antler stocks, Tyler T-grip, and Barranti holster. However, after a while, you may find that carrying a big N-frame revolver is not as comfortable as some other options, especially for EDC. Good luck, and enjoy!

Yes I saw that banner as well. I believe based on his Facebook he closed books around the beginning of last year so if that is the case it may be a long time before I get any made. I will keep an eye out for some used ones. That’s also why I’m getting the holly grips made. Luckily the maker is about to do a batch so it’ll only take about 8 weeks.
