Our small town has a really active airport for its size. A lot of retired military live in the area, there is a Staggerwing museum nearby, as well. Many weekends there are special events going on and this weekend was no different.

Ford tri-motor made a visit and for a price, took passengers on about a 20 minute +/- flight. The "tin goose" has a unique sound, as many of you may know.

This airplane is from the City of Port Clinton, OH and I remember seeing it when I used to make the annual pilgrimage to Camp Perry.

I got to go for a ride in a Ford Tri-Motor back in the summer of 1987. My Dad read in the paper the Tri-Motor would be giving rides at the Lancaster, Pa airport, and off we went in our Ford Pinto wagon. Me and my Dad loved the flight, my brother was ambivalent, and my Mom was just happy to get back on the ground. I still have the newspaper article and pictures I took that day around here somewhere. The Tri-Motor is a neat airplane.

My wife bought me a ride in one when we started dating. For a few dollars more I got to sit right seat. The pilot was gracious enough to let me fly it from crosswind on departure to the base to final turn on our return. It flew about like my Supercub….. with quite a bit of adverse yaw. I'm sure I could have flown the whole flight (unless something out of the ordinary happened). Very wide and forgiving landing gear.
Great experience!
