Just another old Model 10

That would keep me interested, too. I don't think I would have let that one go either.

Thanks Watchdog. Yep - it's a measly .38, after all. The seller's story was that it was "unfired" but I could see a bit of evidence to the contrary. Close, but not quite. And that "3 or 4 guys from other tables had expressed interest and would be back if they sold anything." Hmmm ... that's possible, but I decided not to try to prove him wrong and paid the very reasonable asking price. The stocks number to the gun, there's a big N on the frame, and it doesn't look like the screws have been turned, all of which makes me happy. :)

A local lgs has three 10-5's in like condition, all are nickel without boxes, one a 4" and the other two are snubs. He's asking $599 each. I'm thinkin' that's too much. Am I wrong?

That's a beautiful gun right there. Nice addition.

fat tom
That might be a tad high, without the box, which might be worth $50 or so. However, the snubs might be a go if that's something you really want, especially if the price can be negotiated. Wouldn't hurt to try. Lot's of people don't want these old 38s, cause they're obsolete ;). I saw plenty of 357s today for $900-$1000 and a pretty nice 29-2 no case for $1500 which the seller, er shower, said was priced to sell.

I picked up a nickle 10-5 very similar to yours for 350. However, I got no box nor grips. It was wearing a nice set of stags the seller wanted to keep. I thought it was a little high--but I wanted it.

"Just another old Model 10."

That's sort of like saying "Kate Upton is a nice lookig girl" isn't it? ;)

That's probably a little high, but I'll bet my LGS would have them priced right at that, maybe a little bit lower, but not much. Not in the condition the original one is in. They'd stick in the "if you have to ask you can't afford it" cabinet and wait for someone to come along who really wants it. If in a few weeks no one did, they'd start to drop the price.

That gun looks like it has never been fired. What a stunner!

I went to my first gun show about a month ago in 4 or 5 years as they had just become boring with mostly plastic pistols or ragged-out revolvers at way-too-high prices.

You got a gem and it makes me think about going to gun shows again!

Is that in the "too nice to shoot" category? Normally, I don't care for nickel guns as much as blued, as they tend to look a bit more shabby when they get some wear on them. That revolver, however, is a thing of beauty. Congratulations on acquiring such a high quality piece.

Shipping/Manufacturing Date

A newbie to your forum today. Trying to get a manufacturing date/shipping date for a S&W Model 10-5 serial #D298475. Would appreciate some help.

Thx,

Jim

Actually, there's no such thing as "just another old Model 10", in my opinion.
It's an understatement to say you did good.
+1 on WATCHDOG's post! I'd love to find another Model 10-8. I have yet to find one that "trips my trigger" (hahaha) like my first.

Well, I went to the range today ................. and I didn't take the Kate Upton Model 10. Given my byline, you would think I shoot them all, but this one's too nice. Its not like I don't have other Model 10s to shoot. They all shoot great, and I'm sure this one does too. So sure, in fact, I don't even have to test my theory. Its in the safe next to my unfired blue 19-2 snubby.

ISIS1200L - its a shame you aren't in beautiful Colorado, 'cause the same guy had an unfired 10-8 in the box :)

PS - I'm pretty sure the aforementioned actual Ms. Upton wouldn't receive the same treatment.

It is too high and see how much he has in to it and give him $50.00 dollars over what he paid for it cash. If not, walk away.

I have a model 10-8 Sn 3D419XX I know nothing about this revolver except I like it. Pretty fair condition, would like to know more if someone would share their knowledge on year and value, that would be great. Posting in Tn. at the NRA convention what a madhouse, can't stir us with a stick . Life is good
