Fitting a thumb safety to the 1911 is not rocket science. Ambidextrous safeties are harder to install. I would think most gunsmiths would be able to get you 1911 up and running very quickly. I would not recommend shooting it without a thumb safety as the wide panel below the thumb shelf on the safety keeps the sear pin from walking out.

Thanks for the reply. The FFL holder I am having it shipped to is also a gunsmith. It is supposed to be there monday so I am going to have him look at it. I agree I don't want to fire it with the safety lever missing. If he has to order the lever i will bring it home and admire and polish it until the part arrives. Its a 2016 model and I picked it up for $470. which I think is a great deal. It comes with 2 magazines ,a case and a take down tool.
