Just curious, Does anyone really use the IL?

All My revolvers are now lock free.
I took my only gun that had the stupid IL in it and spent about 20 minutes and removed the flag/lock lug completely and now I don't have to worry whether it will lock up on me or not in a crisis situation.
except for the funky hole on the side with the part that you put the key in( i left it in to fill the hole) the narrow notch next to the hammer where the flag used to be is hardly noticable.
since this a every day carry gun it doesn't bother me, as long as it shoots straight, goes bang every time i pull the trigger and now won't accidentally lock up on me I'm happy.

Careby,

You and I are probably talking about different hypothetical situations. I'm talking about when I was visiting my parents, and might have had to worry about a kid or a non-shooter...
No argument from me, really. I'm just making the point that for all the negatives the IL adds, it really isn't very secure. While using it may be easy and may provide peace of mind in some situations, I can easily imagine a resourceful 8-year-old kid defeating it.

I have five or six with the lock, never have used any of them. Guess I never will. I don't mind them on the J and N frame, but they changed the looks of the 686 to but it on the gun. Hope they do do away with it.

John I hope they do away with them too, that way in about 5 years they will be worth a lot more money (LOL)

I have 11 S&W revolvers and none have the lock. I have personally decided not to purchase any revolver with the lock.

I have several IL Smiths. I never have used the lock on any of them and have a hard time imagining how doing so might ever happen. But I do carry one of the small keys on my key-chain for a couple of reasons, one being to remind me that we should never let down our guard on gun restriction matters, and the second being so that I can lock other people's S&Ws should the need arise!
