Just got 340PD

Took a small family trip this past weekend and while the kids slept in the car the wife and I took turns running into a couple stores near the hotel. On wifes turn no luck, on my turn walked out with a 340PD.

Actually had the regular 340 and the 340PD M&P for about $300 less. Wasn't real sure of the difference (though now see the 340 is 1 1/2ozs lighter and has a 120g minimum .357 limit) other then I really liked the front sight on the PD version so grabbed it.

Was not prepared for how much lighter it is then my regular 60. Have already had to make sure I hadn't lost it out of my ankle rig or forgot to drop it in my pockets as I couldnt notice it was there. So not sure for me the extra $300, extra care for the cylinder and 120g limit is worth saving the 1 1/2 oz (though I wasn't able to feel that difference in the store) and loosing that big ole dot on the front.

Anticipate keeping the 686 still with full Rem 125g SJHP for the house and the 60 w/ Rem GS .357 and 340 w/ Rem GS .38 as my carry rig. Nice to have the same speedloaders for the 60/340 and not have to carry only .38s in those as I wouldve if I opted for the 642.

Hoping to get to the range in a couple days and get a feel for it.

Well, yes, whatever you have, good show! They're both great little guns.

Be sure to heed the caution to thoroughly test the ammunition you intend to use in your 340. I also would take a glove to the range, if you plan to do much shooting. Sissy I may be, but firing a bunch of 357 Magnums out of the 340PD is not high on my list of fun things to do.

thanks for the comments, really was not aware of the difference between the M&P/PD when looking but am satisfied with the M&P.
have no real intentions of carrying .357 in it but really glad to have the option of reloading from the strips/loaders of .357 for my 60/686 if needed as it will be a second piece most the time.

Mag Na Porting really helps these little guns. I favor the 135 gr 38 spl. Speer Gold dots in mine.
