actually sold a VP9 Tactical for this....

Got a pretty good deal online. Much better than local.

Anyways, I'm already aware of the gritty trigger. Suspect it's the striker block.

I plan on doing an Apex FSS on it after the new years. It'll just be a range toy.

Anyways, my question is, I thought they are suppose to come with a spent casing from S&W? Mine is missing. Or do they no longer do this?

With that being said, just how do I figure out, when this gun was built? My sear isn't clean and polished. You can see a glob imperfection on it, but nothing touches there. Just curious.

I plan on taking it out tomorrow and running a variety of rounds through it. Got some Aguila, Magtech and Speer Lawman.

Nope, the case dosent come with the gun anymore. IIRC, the date may be on the sticker on the outside of the case.

My last didnt have a casing either. As for dating if its not listed on the case label then you email or call SW and they can give you the build date using the serial #

sweet. if that's right, mine is 062216, so I guess it is new stock.

I was afraid this could have been an old stock since it was so cheap, lol.

Just curious why did you get rid of the VP9?

New gun. Super stiff spring. Ran cheap range ammo unreliable. Lost confidence in it, but it did run smoother after about 350 rounds.

The major issue is my grip. With thumbs forward, I kept riding that gigantic slide release.

Didn't want to change my grip for 1 gun.

looks like they answered your questions.

I was wanting a decent steel match/3 gun pistol. So I bought a CORE 5". I also considered the VP9/30. I liked the feel of the H&K better, but my wallet liked the M&P better.
With the small backstrap, the M&P was pretty close to the feel of my 1911. With an Apex trigger kit, the M&P was close enough to my 1911.
About 600 rounds with the CORE, and I sold off my EDC 1911, and bought an M&P 9 FS as my EDC. New Apex in that, and a set of Ameriglos and I am every bit as confident in this as I was in my 1911. More so to be honest.

Just my worthless 2 cents worth :D

congrats !! I really like my FS9 trigger wasn't bad out of the box no grittiness great reset but as a range toy I wanted some improvement so I installed the FSS kit, polished the TB and SB, all I can say it is a total new gun, even my accuracy improved.

Alright, just got back from the range.

Fired 50 rounds of Magtech 115gr FMJ. 50 rds of Aguila 124gr FMJ. 50rds of Speer Lawman 147gr TMJ "Clean Fire". And about 25 rounds of WWB value pack. Had some left over from a previous trip I guess.

All fired without issue. The Aguila was smokey as hell, lol.

The M&P 9 is a very smooth shooter. I'm no marksman, but I did feel, I was more accurate with the VP9. I still had a couple nice big ragged holes at 20' with the M&P 9 though. Also, decided to try out the 40' mark and was able to put 2 rounds into a 3" circle somehow. A 3rd round was about 2" high and 6" to the left. The 4th round about 6" to the right. I typically don't engage this far. I'm usually under 25' due to my eyes.

Double taps were off target for me. Well, I still hit the target but not centered or close enough.

To start off with. I didn't clean the gun prior. All I did was put a couple of drops of CLP on the slide rails and top of the trigger bar that rubs against the striker block. Then I wiped the surface of the surface of the sear and striker block with a q-tip and CLP.

I notice when I was chambering a round, either with an overhand grip or the slide lock, the slide wouldn't go into battery smoothly. It hangs up for a split second, then goes into full battery. I guess I just need for the front of the barrel lug area to wear in a bit.

Near the end of the shooting session, I notice my trigger feeling funny. I see the term "creep" used quiet a bit for triggers. I believe that's what's occurring right now.

Now while i'm at home, if I slowly pull the trigger back just right, it wont fire every once in a while. I feel it skip back, like it should fire, but nothing happens. I pull even harder, but I'm against the trigger guard now. If I release just a hair, and continue, it will fire. Other times, if I hold it back, it will fire, but feels like a delayed fire. And other times, it's perfectly fine.

While playing with it at home, it seems to happen when I'm pulling the trigger with my knuckle joint instead of the finger pad.

This is occurring on the 2nd fire, after I release the trigger from the initial firing and after the reset, if that makes sense.

Interesting.....

if you pull the trigger almost at the end and still won't fire but might need to adjust the trigger bar loop, what seems weird is that it happened just after you shot it. Obviously not normal for a brand new gun, you might want to call S&W and see what they have to say.

Hmmm, let me know if this is weird too.

I know you're suppose to be able to pull the trigger to release the slide, so let me know if this is odd.

So I break it down to clean it.

Locked the slide back
Rotate slide lever
Pull slide to release forward
Tried to pull trigger and it doesn't fire. I racked the slide enough to engage and again, it doesn't fire to release.
That's when I notice the slide is forward maybe about 1/8". So I hold the slide back, so the rear is flush with the frame, then pulled the trigger. It clicks and I'm able to remove the slide forward.

Is this normal? Is so you don't accidently drop the slide when you pull the trigger? I wonder if all my "issues" are related?

It's odd. The trigger is atrocious though, especially compared to the VP9, lol. Good enough for combat I guess.

That's why all my M&P's have apex triggers. :D

Yep, that's on my list of things to do, after the holidays. Need to take care of the family first.

I have experience with a m&p 9c that has the Apex duty setup, with the stock trigger. It's very nice and smooth.

Since the full size will be just a range toy, I'll Gucci it out with the FSS w/ aluminum trigger.

*edit*
My 3 magazines got delivered today. $19 each shipped. Couldn't pass that up.
