Just got a new to me Model 60

Picked this up last week, wish it had the original grips. S# R2274XX about what year does that make it?

Looks to be in the 1979-1980 range. Excellent gun, I have a few of them, sort of my favorite.

factory grips are easy to come by. the pinned model 60 with the standard wood grips has a very classic look to me. enjoy that gun!

You need a set of factory magnas and a polished t-grip to go on that beauty. I have often said that the Model 60 no-dash is the classiest little revolver S&W ever made. I carry one every day.

Here is an example of a NIB no-dash Mod. 60 with factory magna's. This particular gun is a very late no-dash "transitional" gun manufactured just after the pinned barrel was eliminated.

They were the first production stainless handguns produced by S&W and the forerunner of all the stainless guns we see today. Their popularity remains legendary today, especially in law enforcement....

Interesting information TDC. I have a 60 dash nothing with no pin and I have often wondered why it is like this. So you say it is an early transitional? Mine is a 3" square butt and serial #AEU8712.

Yep that is very nice looking gun TDC, exactly what I'm looking for in the grips, I bid on a set on EBay yesterday but didn't get them, there seem to be plenty on there for J frame round butt S&W revolvers,guess I'll keep trying. Will any grip for a round butt J frame fit or do they have to be for a model 60?

Hmmmm. What I find interesting is the serial number on the one I've shown starts with an "R"; then a series of numbers like Groundpounders, which is the normal numbering for a no-dash. That's the way most no-dash 60's are numbered that I've seen. Your 3" has a serial number beginning with"AE", which I believe commonly indicates it's in the dash-1 era. We have two 60's that confirm the confusion of the "transitional" period. We learn new things daily on this website...

Any "J" frame round butt grip should fit your Mod 60. I'm unaware of any recent changes that could alter that...

This is my first snubbie, I own several hand guns, S&W 9mm mod 39 no dash (which my father in law so graciously gifted to me), S&W 357 mod 19-3 (which i bought new), S&W M&P 45 (love this gun), and a few other non S&W's...but they all have 4 to 6 inch barrels, and I'm a pretty decent shot with them, with this snub nose I can hit a three inch circle at 7 yds but move out to 10 yds and I'm all over the place, should I expect to get better with more practice or is 7 yds gonna be the max with the snubbie?
