Love it except for one thing 99% of you will never encounter. It has the bear hug grips and my pinky is hanging no where the gun. For the life of me I can not understand why revolver manufactures can't make a grip that you can fit your pinky on. My old stocks on a model 29 no problem weather target or combat. Not today. Granted my hands are XXXL but give me a pinky please. Gun is fantastic. Feels like you are holding a 38 special.

You mean like the stocks specified in Chapter 7 of "No Second Place Winner" by William Jordan? It is cut to your hand. Jordan Troopers from Heretts Stocks. Unfortunately, these are no longer made.

There are so many aftermarket stocks available that you should not have any trouble finding something that works for you.

You can't fit your whole hand on a set of N-frame bear hug grips???😲 Hmmm...I'm starting to think that you're the grizzly who ate AC Man and is now posting on his forum account. No seriously, do you carry a 44 Mag into the mountains to hand to the bear, so it'll have a fighting chance?

From a marketing standpoint, Smith and Wesson really did something right with the Mountain Gun series. I have an old 629-4 Mountain, that I’d never part with. It’s definitely a good gun. Neat concept. Even the new ones….. guys are doing back flips over it.

In reality, my M69 does the same thing. But it just doesn’t have whatever the N frame has emotionality. Nobody ever picked up an L frame and had flashbacks of Elmer Keith, or Dirty Harry.

All this makes me wonder if Colt followed the Mountain Gun concept and made a light weight gun out of the Anaconda, how it’d go over.

I own a 4.25" 69 that I bought specifically for a light weight, heavy hitting, hunting capable woods carry gun for use as backup when bowhunting dangerous game, running bear baits pre-season, fishing, etc. It's ugly with the bead blasted finish and goofy two toned look but I shoot it better than any other handgun I've ever owned and absolutely love it for woods carry. Because of my overwhelmingly positive experience with the 69, I haven't bought a 44 mountain gun but I DID put a 686 Mountain Gun on backorder. The .357 version will be the same frame size and similar weight to my beloved 69 but offer a pretty .357 mag version with 7 shots vs a 5-shot 44mag. Honestly, I doubt I'll sell the 69 when the 686 Mountain Gun comes in but I'm super excited for the .357 MG because of how great my 69 has been.

What loads do you carry in your model 69?

When I got my 2.75” M69, it was my intention to shoot a light load in it. I previously had a 3 inch Ruger GP100 in 44 Special that I liked real well until the barrel shank split; a common occurrence. I was not satisfied with the inaccuracy I was getting from using Special cases. And a 200 XTP looks too much like a 240 XTP in a Magnum case; which is my preferred bullet now. And the sights on my gun seem to be better regulated for Magnum ammo. So I abandoned the idea of making a 44 special out of the M69.

I ran out of lead a long time ago, and 2400 is not available, so my current 44M load is a 240 XTP on top of one grain less than Hodgedon says is max. My velocities, in my handguns, is faster than their listed max velocities. In the little 2.75 inch M69, the 240 XTP is going 1100 flat (FPS). It’s not much fun to shoot off the bench. Offhand isn’t bad, but I don’t shoot the 69 a whole lot. Accuracy is decent for a short barreled 44M. Gotta really stare at those sights. I usually keep 5 shots under 4 inches at 25 yards. If I get lucky, I can keep 5 shots around 2.5 inches at 25 off the bench.
