Just saw a picture on one of my favorite authors (Jack Carr) website of him with James Yeager. He was eulogizing James, who died of ALS (Lou Gherig's disease) on Sept 2, at the age of 49.

Opinions vary on James and his teaching, but the firearms family has lost one of it's most staunch supporters and instructors.

Death can come at anytime, but I must say this caught me off-guard.

A hard guy to shed a tear for. He came off needlessly angry, and paranoid, and spoke in extreme language, so even when he was right about something he was off-putting to many people. He always talked about how he didn't care what other people thought about him but spent a lot of time defending his actions and comments. He seemed to take personal pride in alienating people.

Still and all, 49 is a young age to go.

James was not always easy to like but he didn’t care.I had met and talked to him at least a half dozen times .I regret not taking one of his firearms classes. But I was busy training with other instructors. My wife’s oldest son and friends have done many classes with him and swore by him.He was a good man and went out a warrior. As sick as he was with als he went to the Ukraine.Kiev was almost surrounded when he got there to help train warriors.May God keep and bless him.I am sure he is in Valhalla now.

Yes I do. I thought since the notice was posted here and some were familiar with this person, a bit more insight might be furnished on this site than what may be available by googling the name, but I've been wrong before. Pardon me, I didn't intend to ruin your day.

The web is your oyster.

Incidentally, there is not a sentient being on this forum capable of ruining my day.

I just saw what Uncle Mas posted on his blog and thought some folks here might like to see it:

A GOOD MAN PASSES |

Jack Carr (author of The Terminal List) was a friend of James, and he shared similar comments to Mas. I wasn't a friend but did sign up to take one of his classes about 10 years ago.
By all accounts he was a great guy - despite his online persona.
Spoke his mind. Admitted when he was wrong. Stood up for his students AND his instructors and was a sound teacher of fundamentals, firearms, mentality and tactics.

I don't have to agree with "everything" someone says or does in order to like them, and for all the reasons stated above...I liked him.
