It's a 14-2, .38, 6" bbl. Minty bore, 99-98% on its finish, stocks match, with no dings or scratches. I Did not get a box or papers. Paid $425, so how did I do? I will post a picture when I get another camera. What I would like to know is about how old is the pistol? SN: K763XXX Thanks in advance!!

I paid 500.00 for mine in similar condition without box or papers and was happy to get it, so I think you got a great deal. Mine was from a dealer and he has the hard to find stuff but usually his prices are high.

You did really well on that purchase I paid $500 for a 14-4 with 8 3/8 inch barrel last year.

I have a 14-2 serial number K762xxx that was shipped in 1968. Of course S&W never sent out their pistols in perfect serial number order, but I thought this might give you a point of reference.

Do the grips have the diamond around the excursion screw? The grips on mine number to the gun, but do not have the diamond inserts on them.

My 14-2 K687xxx didn't came with numbered diamond's either:D

The 14's are the true "sleepers" of the S&W revolvers, imho. Not only did you do well, you did extremely well at that price. A year from now, I'd be surprised if you can find a 98-99% early Model 14 for less than $600.
My $.02 worth,
Tom

Found my 14-2 6" at a Pawn 3 wks ago, Target trigger and grips, slight holster wear at Muzzle and front of Cylinder. Could not believe my Eyes was marked $299.00

Nope - no diamond inserts but they do number to the gun.
