Just picked up my new 629 5” S&W. Question about the forcing cone as I’m new to revol

Just picked up my new 629 5” S&W. Question about the forcing cone as I’m new to revolvers. Is this normal for a scratch/slight gouge on the forcing cone? Any concern? Should I send it back to S&W or? I already broke down the revolver and cleaned it. Bought this factory new from the gun shop.

Looking at the pictures, I'm inclined to think the cylinder gas ring or the face of the cylinder is contacting the forcing cone. Contact S&W, since it is a new revolver it comes with a warranty.

That forcing cone looks pretty clean. It looks like that ding is on the sharp edge, which isn't an unusual occurrence. Just check the front of the cylinder to make sure there are no drag marks from it contacting the barrel. If there isn't, I'd just go ahead and shoot it. You probably won't even notice it after the natural ware to the cone from a box or two.

Not the forcing cone

The pictures show the scratches on the breech face of the barrel. The forcing cone is the internal of the barrel breech end. I would be more concerned about the barrel-to-cylinder gap being too small or a burr on the front face of the cylinder. Also I would check the end shake of the cylinder which could possibly allow the cylinder to touch the barrel breech face!

No contact on the forcing cone from the cylinder. I'm assuiming its tooling marks maybe from the factory. Just concerned with function of it and safety of shooting it.

As long as nothing is contacting the barrel extension, you should be good to go.

S&W quality ain't so good right now. I bought a 929 couple years ago. The forcing cone is beautiful, best I.ve ever seen. But, trigger hangs in the forward position. Gun shoots very well single action so I kept it.
