looking for peoples opinion on holdsters, positions, ect. My primary carry will be my ruger sr9 and my secondaru will be my s&w .38 snubby. Im leaning towards a IWB at about 1:30 but kinda looking to see what others with more carry time think. When not in uniform my dress is casual in the hottest part of summer basketball shorts(in which case ill carry the .38) and if its not extreamly hot jeans and a tshirt. Any input or advice would be great thanks

That positions sounds very uncomfortable to me. I have almost always carried at the the 4 o'clock position, just behind my strong side hip, whether IWB or OWB. This is very comfortable, concealable and very accessible.
As you get more experienced you will find comfort is very important. If it's not comfortable you'll leave it at home. And of course access and concealment are vitally important. Make sure whatever you carry is undetectable, and always accessible. I would also recommend you buy only quality holsters. The cheap ones won't last, and you'll regret getting them. Get the best and you won't be sorry.
All the best.

I carry a BUG in a SmartCarry rig and have done so for many years (and many of those years it had a Colt snub in it).

Depending on your body size and shape it might work for you.

Know the Laws, Obey them, Practice with your carry piece, Get a dummy (BLUE) gun the same as your

primary carry for holster practice, and look into INSURANCE.

An incident easily amounts to TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS in legal costs.

You possibly could face TWO LEGAL ACTIONS, one criminal, one civil. Burden of proof is to a lower standard in civil court.

Concealed Carry includes many responsibilities.

I first received my carry permit in 1977. Been carrying ever since. Carrying anything bigger than a .25 auto is a hassle in one way or
another. You may find that your J frame, if air-weight, becomes your
primary. Appendix is the only IWB position that is comfortable for me,
i'm thin, and can be uncomfortable when seated. Most of the time I
do what many others do, air-weight J frame in a pocket holster. Not
perfect but easy and if carrying is a hassle and-or uncomfortable for
you, you WILL find excuses for leaving your gun at home or in the
car and what good is that?

I prefer iwb at the 4:00 position, depending on what your carrying, what your wearing and social activity will determine how you carry.

BTW what is a "holdster"??????

Yes, it's a heck of a responsibility and I took it seriously when I was commisioned in 1976 and still do.

As a young geezer, I tend to favor sidepocket carry or back pocket in cargo shorts for my old S&W .38 Model 38. If I'm driving it's appendix carry. Mika's pocket and IWB holsters work for me.

My old S&W Model 66 can be carried under the right conditions and yes, I still use my Uncle Roy's pancake. Your options are numerous and visit with others in your area that carry and see if you can try it before you buy it. It doesn't take long to deplete your funds buying holsters only to find out they don't work for you. The only satisfied customer that matters is you.

Good Luck and Stay Safe.

agreed. the 4:00 position is something of a go to default for me and I carry a full sized 1911.
the 1:00 and 11:00 positions will make you aware of how often you bend over in a day. The 4:00 serves far better till your in the car where it sucks. A shoulder rig would be my first choice on a road trip to be sure. surprisingly the 4:00 isnt bad for sitting positions otherwise and it honestly only occasionally reminds me where it is on me.

I never could get used to IWB. I prefer OWB at 4:00 with a jacket, or long shirt, untucked.

I agree, despite the fact I'm wearing an IWB as I type. I have a Kusiak Leather for my Shield that allows me to carry from appendix to 4 o'clock. I move to the position that prints least.

thanks for all the advice looks like trial and error pretty much to see what works for me. its so much easier carring my m4 on a d-ring and not having to worryt about all the options out there. good catch thndrchiken didnt even notice they typo

Just received my CCW

I carry IWB at 3:30 find it very good. Make sure you really know your gun before you carry, also shoot enough rounds at the range first. And a good gun belt and holster is important.

Check out remora on youtube its an IWB carry. He provides several examples of different firearms/remora holsters. I have found that the same holster can hold a glock23/27, pt111 and a j frame. Clearly, this approach - may be a good indicator that I am a cheapskate or the holster purchased (based on the glock) fits a variety of guns. The slimmer guns were more comfortable to wear and you will need a belt to help hold the holster in place.

If you like what you see...go to the remora site.

I very smart man once said to me " the cheap **** holsters will get you killed" Like I said he is a very smart man. make sure your holster will stay open when the gun is drawn, a one handed re-holster is a must you have to be able to re-holster by feel without looking.
I also like 4:00 and wear a milt sparks daily with my M&P 40C
good luck and you will more then likely end up with a box full of holsters.
Good luck be safe and remember the 4A's Always Aware Always Alert
