Just scored a 98% 29-2

As you know, the same with me. I did see on ebay a 6.5 bbl in S.S. but I'm pretty dubious. It's pretty shiny and the text on the barrel doesn't look right to me. Take a gander and see what you think. item #256129721423
As far as I know Smith never made a 6.5 Stainless bbl for the 629.

Rick
It looks nickel to me, and probably doesn't have a groove for the pin as it's after 1982??
I'd need more pictures

It looked nickel to me also but the text on the barrel seems a little off. I don't know how S&W does that but this looks like it's tapped in or something. I don't know the exact word for it at the moment.

All right quite rubbing it in. lol I only have the 2 6.5" 29's and 6" 629. And as you know I'm trying to do the same thing with the 24's and 624. But there is absolutely no way I'm going to try repeat what you've done with yours. I could afford it but don't want the hassle trying to find 6 more magnums like that. Before you know it I'd have to do it with the specials. I doubt that I could accomplish it in my remaining 31 years.

Jealous as hell,

Rick
It never ends

While a 4" 629 no dash is my favorite Magnum, I recently picked up a Highway Patrolman 4" 28-2 that has been converted to .44 Magnum using a tapered M/24 4" barrel. I shoot light 3.5gr. & 5.0gr. Bulleye with 200gr. RNFP Cowboy loads in it.
