I am considering a K-22 SN#K70135...about 98% condition, it is a beautiful revolver...one caveat..the grips are some aftermarket plastic target grips. Sort of mottled white/ivory in color..but have the checkered pattern with diamond in the center where the screw is located. The revolver is 5 screw with pinned barrel..possibly recessed. Is this revolver worth $540 with the additional cost of replacement grips? Anyone familiar with the aforementioned plastic target grips? I am thinking early 50's production but it would be nice to pin it down with some help...and I do appreciate any info and feedback.

The correct grips are gonna set you back $50 or so for diamond magnas, or 100--150 or even more for diamond targets in excellent condition. IMO the price is too high.

If you want it, sounds like a great price. If you don't, sounds like the price is too high. Once you have it, it's yours!, let others drool. You only have to justify your purchases to yourself.

That is probably a 1949 gun. I wouldn't pay that for it, but I already have one. It is a wonderful shooter.

Your gun sounds similar to one that's been up for auction recently on GB. I've looked at the photos and, if it's that one, it appears to be a great gun! I've recently, on two occasions, paid more than what you're considering paying, for a couple of 617s. Whatever it costs you you'll more than save in ammo cost the first year you shoot it!!!
