Anyone know the first K-22 serial number made/shipped in 1948. I have K10184 and I was born in 1948.

I have K3897 (Dec. '47), K9044 (Jan. '48), K16963 (Feb. '48) and a bright blue K36275 (Oct. '48), so you can see from this and the above that, as has been said many times, there is no correlation between numbers and shipping.

I was born in Jan. '48 but haven't bothered checking whether K9044 shipped on my birthday.

Thanks, puts mine in '47 then.

Not necessarily. There are many inquiries about serial numbers and manufacture dates in this Forum, and almost all replies note that S&W did not ship in serial number order. The only way to be certain of the date when a S&W was made is to obtain a factory letter from our Historian, Roy Jinks.

Actually the original K22 Outdoorsman dates to 1931. They were made 1st made in Jan 1931 and numbered within the M&P 1905 4th change series in S/N beginning about 632132. There were 19,500 made from then to 1940 when they were discontinued. The K 22 Masterpiece (Pre-war) model was made from 1940 to to 1941 then stopped during the war with just 1067 having been made.

K 956 was shipped March 1947, my birth month and year. I was thrilled to get a birth month gun, especially a 3 digit K22.
If I went for the DAY, and it was anything other than the 19th, I wouldn't be so thrilled. One in 31 chances for the 19th.
hmm.
