A friend at work showed me pictures today of a very nice K-22 that his grandfather passed down to his Dad. Serial number is K236xxx, which I believe is mid-fifties. Finish is at least 95%, and he has the original dark charcoal box, which I believe was only used for a very short time. I told him I thought the value was around $800. Am I in the ballpark? Is the charcoal box really rare? Any thoughts or comments are appreciated.

The box in question is a medium-dark blue-gray, and is scarce. Depending on the exact 95% ness of the gun $800 may be at the upper end of current value to high.

K236xxx
K231,256 – K266,154...1955 (manufacture). Sight unseen, 95% and with a box, $800 may not be too far off. Is anything in the box with the gun?

Thanks guys for your comments. DWalt, I'm not sure if he has any accessories with the box. He did say when they took it to a local gun shop the owner really liked it but he has no plans to sell it. I told him to get it lettered and give the letter to his Dad for Christmas!

A rare box is not that valuable - its the gun that goes with it that makes it valuable. ie, the Reg mag box will go for $1000 to $1500, but its the gun that drives the price. The box you are asking about is a mid 50's box and the color seems to darken with age, thus the variety of shades.
