K-22 Trigger Problem

Dear Fellow Smith & Wesson Enthusiasts,

When shooting my 17-3 single-action I make a good effort to squeeze the trigger slowly, smoothly and deliberately - as I have been taught. However, it seems that on every third or fourth shot that the trigger pulls my finger forward and, essentially, de-cocks itself. What's going on and how do I fix it. Double-action works fine but this problem is making me crazy, giving me trigger "yips" and opening up my already accuracy-challenged target groups.

Agreed with Alk8944; this is a classic symptom of push-off. You may need a new trigger, hammer or both. If the cocking notch on the hammer is compromised it is best to replace it. Parts can be found for relatively cheap and a good gunsmith will be able to repair it for not too much. If so inclined you can take a stab at it yourself, just be careful to make sure the single-action is safe. As your gun is right now I would set it aside until it is repaired as that hammer won't take much to drop.
