K-222

I have a set of C-H dies and about 340rds. of K-222 brass that a friend of mine is trying to sell. Looks like 222 Rem. that the shoulder has been moved (like an Ackly or Weatherby angle).
Does anyone know anything about this round? I have a 1955 Lyman reloading manual that shows data for it, but thats all I can find. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The "K" comes from Lysle Kilbourn of Whitesboro, NY, an oldtime wildcatter most famous for the K-Hornet. At one time he was affiliated with Lyman.

P.O. Ackley's books, Handbook for Shooters & Reloaders will have something on your cartridge. My copy is stored in the basement, but I'll look later and let you know.

I looked in my 1954 Lyman #39 handbook there is a K-.222 Remington with a note: Same cast bullets as .222 Remington without a picture of the case. Mr. Kilbourn worked for Remington then went to Lyman. He developed the K-Hornet, K-Savage .22 Hi Power, K-220 Swift These were sharp angled cases for more powder volume.

To make the "K" list complete you need to add the K-Lovell and the K-.218 Bee.

Interestingly, Griffin and Howe advertised converting M70 Hornets to the K-222 in the early '50s.
