Do you know any 1950's vintage gun magazines with detailed and illustrated reports on the K-22 Target Masterpiece and/or the K-22 Combat Masterpiece?

Not offhand. I would suggest you call your local library to see if they have back issues from that era. Some do. If not, start asking around to see if anyone has old issues of the American Rifleman. The December issue of each year has an index of the guns they shot, tested, or reviewed.

I now that you're in Switzerland. That may be difficult. If I were you, I'd extend the search back just a bit to the late 1940s.

Does anyone know if they ever put the index on line? I've got the magazines from early 1948 to present. I just don't have the time to do the research. If it were winter and miserable outside, I'd probably do it just to read them!

Dick, nice to hear from you again and thanks for the input. 1940's & 1950's vintage issues of the American Rifleman are very difficult to locate in Swiss libraries. Perhaps there are also other sporting or police related magazines of that era which might contain a K-22 report. I do assume that some of the forum members & visitors are quite advanced gun magazine experts and this was the reason why I decided to give it a try right here. It will be interesting to see if there are any further echoes on this subject.

Other than the Rifleman I don't know of any dedicated gun magazines until 1960 or so. Field & Stream and Outdoor Life had a few gun articles but the mainstream gun magazines didn't start hatching until the '60s.

If you're a member of the NRA, you might contact their Publications Dept. I got a photocopy of a 1930's (?) article about the 38/44 HD's a couple of years ago. I don't know what they have available in the archives, but it might be worth an email etc.

Hope this might help some.
Best,
David

I couldn't find any articles in the 1950s index editions. The 1948 and 1949 versions were indexed differently, but there wasn't anything in those, either. Several on the K38 and Combat Masterpiece, the 38 versions of the guns you ask about. That pretty much eliminates those years as sources for reading.

The next best option would be to try to find the books by Skeeter Skelton. He was a big advocate of the K22s, and his writings were a big influence on me (my downfall, according to my family.)

Dick, again my sincerest thanks for your kind assistance! In the meantime, I did some quite extensive online research, without results yet.
