How ya all doin tonight. Can any one tell me how many K-48's with 8 3/8" bbl were produced. I have only seen two in my lifetime, including the one I just picked up. It is unfired and NIB. My gun book of values seems to have it underpriced, especially considering the scarcity of the piece. As soon as I figure this out I will post a photo.
Thanks,

Can't tell you how many were produced, but they really aren't what I would call scarce, certainly not rare. Don't know about you but I spend MANY hours each week looking for Smith & Wessons. Everywhere that most here are familiar with and many places that they are not. I feel pretty confident in saying that I will see half a dozen a month.

Yeah I m certain that the web could produce if I looked. I m from WA, and frequent all the shows between Portland and Seattle, and can say they are scarce in this neck of the woods. Take care.

S&W 48

I have to agree with fat Tom, I don't think they are that hard to find, in fact I have two mod. 48's that I am thinking of selling.

The M48 that is real tough to find is a 4 screw M48 no dash 8 3/8". That one will cost you a few bucks. Big Larry

I would have to disagree with fat tom and agree with bamabiker. I have a model 48-2 in 4" made in 1971. It is one of only 3 model 48s I have ever seen in person in my lifetime, the other 2 being a 6" and an 8 3/8". At least around here, they don't seem to turn up that often.

The Model 48 with the long barrel was my first revolver, a gun I purchased as-new in 1970 and sold two years later (for $105) to get the cash to buy an Italian 10-speed bicycle. Wish I still had it.
