k frame barrel threads

Just got done w a 686 barrel .I would like to run a dye by hand just to make sure the barrel screws in like butter ,with some low lock locktite .it looks to me like .625/16 just thought this would be the fastest way to get a answer .Thread gauge lost new one on order ? thanks for any help>DR Dick

The 686 is an L frame and I would skip the locktite and die. Dies come in different fit classes, and unless you have the exact factory die, you may make a problem. I would not use my general purpose class V dies on a gun, but they are just fine for chasing threads on auto bolts.

K frame barrels mike .534-.535 diameter over the threads and have 36 TPI. I fit a L frame 681 barrel to a K frame 66 but I dont recall the original thread diameter on the the 681 barrel. Jeff
